Why Pune Need Metro?

Pune a city of traditional values and a education hub. After year 2000 Pune is well known for industrialization and for IT hub. Development of Pune and PCMC is in multiples since last 2 decades. Rise of city gave opportunity to lots of fresher to get job. As job increases Pune become the choice of people to live. Lots of people migrated in Pune to find better life and work. This is the reason population of city increased rapidly.

Now Pune’s traffic is not less than Mumbai. It will take hours for you to travel few kilometers in Hinjawadi IT park or in City Market. To toggle the traffic problem local authorities are continuously working on infrastructure development of the city.

Here are some new project launched in city for traffic management-

  3. BRTs
  4. Existing road Development
  5. High Capacity Mass Transit route

Pune metro is dream project of government. It is estimated that Pune metro will have huge response and will help to solve traffic problem in city. Pune has 3 Metro lines which are as given below,

  2. Line 2 – Vanaz to Ramwadi
  3. Line 3 – Hinjawadi – Civil Court (Shivajinagar)

Hinjawadi Metro Line 3

Pune metro work is in fast-rack mode. It is expected to complete first  lines in 2021 and Line 3 in 2022.

Many people oppose the Pune metro. They think Pune don’t need metro and it will be waste to money to invest around 20,000 crores in useless project. They says PCMC have huge roads and pillar will be traffic causing agent and nothing else will come out from project.

Now lets consider some points that will decide than Pune metro will be huge successful project. Here are some points which will prove that Pune need Metro-

Pune Metro for Traffic solution

Traffic problem of city is terrible. It is nightmare to drive in city. Pune metro will definitely help to minimize the traffic problem. Pune’s peoples are very receptive to technology. They will surely give metro a try. Pune’s people will love to travel with metro. If people started using metro then it will result to minimize road traffic. Some statistics says that Pune has more vehicles than it’s population. steel around 800+ vehicles are daily registered in city. This data is enough to understand how big will traffic problem in the city. Pune metro will carry lots may traffic. Hence Pune metro will definitely work for traffic control in city.

Pune Metro a Green Project

Pune is rapidly growing metro. Vehicles counts in city is very high. Ultimately it results to the pollution in the city. Pune’s pollution is in control right now but it won’t be same in the future. As pollution count is increasing day by day. Mahametro will reduce on road numbers of vehicles. It will cost only 20% of fuel if same number of people use their private vehicle instead of using metro. Means Pune metro will save lots of fuel per year and ultimately will reduce pollution. Solar power is used in various stations. It is said that 65% of power used in stations will work on solar power. Not a single tree is cut in the construction of metro. Fly ash is used wherever possible. Curing compound is used at the time of construction to save water. Waste of construction and demolished material is recycled fully.Proper drainage and sedimentation tank used to save water. stations are equipped with water saving plumbing systems. Water will be reused for flushing. Rain water harvesting is done in all stations. dimmers and dimmable lights will be used to energy saving. energy efficient pumps and motors are used. This is why Pune Metro is a Green Project.

Convenient way of travel

PMPML (Pune Mhanar Parivahan Mhamandal Ltd) is the local bus transport for the city. Most of PMPML buses are full with crowd. Some peoples don’t even get place to seat. Pune is a city where all weather works perfectly. Means Pune has rains, cold and summer all three seasons. These seasons sometimes are at it’s extreme stages. This is why bike traveling, using local bus or private transportation can’t be that convenient. Industrial areas and IT park sometimes has non moving traffic. Time saving is very important for employees and college going students. Bus and private transport most time the times fails to reach to the destinations on time. Pune metro is very perfect solution for all these problems/ No season extreme conditions will bother traveler. No traffic problems will stop the metro. Travelling cost will also saved if one travels by private car and by Pune metro.

Perfect Route Selection

As mentioned above Line 1 – PCMC to Swargate, Line 2 – Vanaz to Ramwadi  and Line 3 – Hinjawadi – Civil Court (Shivajinagar) are the 3 routes of the metro. Most of the traffic travel from these routes only. Many students use line 1 route because this route have many colleges. This road connects both Municipal offices of adjacent corporation authorities. If you want to connect to main core city of Pune. Line 2 is also perfect for working and residential peoples. Line 3 is the best route for metro. Hinjawadi to civil court route has most traffic in working days. This metro will always be full. because this route peoples even hate to drive own vehicle to go to destination. Line 3 will be most successful among the 3 lines. There is no better route selection than these 3 routes.

Small Area Consumption

Metro has elevated and underground options. Metro pillar doesn’t hamper road traffic as size of the metro bridges are not as big as normal traffic flyover. Where elevated option is not available underground route is used like line 1. Local train or road construction, BRTs construction require huge area. In Pune city land acquisition is a big issue because city consists lots many patches of defense areas. Old core city is so crowded that even expansion of existing road is not possible. Some areas are so congested that auto Rickshaw also can’t go there. In such case underground and elevated metro is best option for traffic management. Line 1 and 2 will be operated in 110 acre areas only. This is really small area. Metro is really best solution if city is dense and land acquisition is not possible. Huge number of peoples travel in very less infrastructure area.

These are the reasons why Pune need metro and it will be successful project.
